Rob Des Cotes is a fellow pastor who worked with me in church ministry for many years. He would often introduce something profound with the comment “for what it’s worth” and it sounded to my ears a bit like the biblical “verily, verily.” Following that phrase came words that were thought out, personal, focused, sometimes confrontational or challenging, and always helpful and true.
I have called our blog “For What It’s Worth” as I hope that it will have a similar impact on you as these words have had on me. I am looking for our bloggers to speak something fresh and related to culture and God, or perhaps theologically whimsical or wise, and brief enough to read over a cup of tea.
I will be “The Blog Pugilist” (I will come with gloves on) and submissions for the blog will come through me. Yes, you can submit your thoughts and ideas, as will faculty, staff and students of Carey (or elsewhere) and members of our denomination (and otherwise). If I edit anything (as in, transforming your rant to actual information or cutting the size down from book length to 250 words), I will consult with you first.
Another thing about Rob and his marvelous phrase: it always welcomed the hearer into a deeper friendship. And, for what it’s worth, I hope this blog will as well.
