Chinese Ministry: Carey is Accessible
Carey is pleased to announce our new extension site at Evangelical Chinese Bible Church (ECBC) in Burnaby. The church is home to the largest Mandarin-speaking Chinese Christian congregation in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and the location and facilities are ideal for hosting Carey courses and seminars. With the addition of this extension site Carey is more accessible to equipping pastors, leaders, and lay persons who serve as part of our Chinese Christian community. Carey will develop more courses in 2016 with a concentration that will help students graduate with a Mandarin focus..
Carey is Transformational
31 Chinese students studying for four years in Hong Kong have graduated with a Diploma in Pastoral Ministry. This cohort gathered annually in Hong Kong to take Carey courses that provide a theological foundation for practical ministry and a time of encouragement for both professors and students. Dr. Joyce Chan and Clement Tong, Director of Chinese Ministries, were both present at this special event to hear student stories. There is unlimited potential for regeneration through the churches in China and Carey is resourcing this on-going transformation.
YES! I WANT TO HELP REGENERATE CHINESE COMMUNITIES:
- $500 towards course development for the new ECBC extension site
- $1,000 towards resourcing for Chinese educators
- $3,000 towards the development of online courses for students in Hong Kong
ReGeneration (NACCM – North American Chinese Church Ministries) at Carey is
esigned to equip leaders to proclaim the Good News of Christ’s redemption and to bring renewal, reconciliation and restoration to Chinese Canadian Christian communities. We strive to
provide culturally-sensitive and theologically-oriented ministry training for leaders who share the Chinese Christian story. The vision of ReGeneration is to offer theological education for Chinese Christian leaders crossing geographical boundaries.
“Many pastors may identify the common experience of being preoccupied by the day to day pastoral responsibilities and barely have time to reflect on the Missio Dei for his/her respective ministry. For Christian leaders who immerse themselves in the tri-lingual and multicultural North American Church setting, we are daily bombarded with questions like: How do we deal with conflicts between the first and second generation immigrants? Do Chinese churches in North America need to be transformed into a multicultural congregation? What is God’s larger purpose for immigrant and ethnic churches in North America? Despite how busy we are, ready or not, Chinese Christian leaders in North America will have to face these challenges.
Carey’s NACCM program equips and trains ministers to see the mission and calling of North American Chinese churches from a broader cultural and kingdom perspective. It allows ministers time and space to reflect and discern the Missio Dei for their respective ministries. As a result, the next generation of Christian leaders can be prepared to meet the challenges. The education I received from Carey forms me to become a Christian leader who looks beyond problems and tensions and focuses on the Missio Dei for Chinese Canadian churches.”
