As a graduate theological college, we are dedicated to preparing men and women to serve within the church community. To do so, we offer three possible programs of study.

- Master of Divinity

The MDiv degree is widely recognised as the foundational program to prepare persons for ordained ministry and for pastoral leadership in congregations and other settings.

- Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation

The MASF prepares persons to offer leadership in the area of spiritual formation in congregations and other settings, which may include congregational formation ministries, lay leadership training, spiritual direction and retreat ministries.

- Doctor of Ministry

The DMin degree offered by Carey Theological College is intended to:

  • Equip ministers to reach a higher level of effectiveness in the practice of ministry
  • Deepen ministers’ awareness of the theological framework out of which their ministry grows
  • Enhance life and ministry in the setting which the minister serves

The teaching and learning provided in each program suits the needs and interest of our students. Course options include:

- Classroom settings for onsite intensive courses (four to five days),

- Weekend and weeknight courses

- Online courses, and

- Hybrid courses (a mix of online and onsite).

All courses run for 12 weeks. In the case of hybrid courses, Carey has an online component before and after the onsite intensive portion of the course.

Students are advised to register a minimum of two weeks prior to the beginning of the term and to purchase their textbooks well in advance.

Learning Mode

To serve a broad range of learning styles and student work experiences, we employ instructional technologies to teach some courses. These technologies, while reducing travel costs, can boost collaboration and allow students to learn in different modes. Some learning options include electronic bulletin boards, computer-mediated class discussions, blogs, videoconferencing and web streaming. Each of these methods provide flexibility for students to access a Carey education. As well, we offer Guided Studies, which provide our students with the opportunity to study areas of personal interest beyond those in the established curriculum. Details regarding such courses are available from the Registrar’s office. Such studies may be taken after approval by the Registrar, in consultation with the VP Academic, and the appropriate instructor’s consent. Required courses will not be offered as Guided Studies, so students should plan to complete all required elements of their program in the modular format or online format when they are offered. Guided Studies are reserved for topics in which a student wants to pursue individual study with a professor and may be used only to fill electives within the academic program.
