Carey President Opportunity Brief

Carey is a family of ministries that has been on the cutting edge of educating competent Christian leaders to serve today’s missional church since 1959. Carey provides creative, lifelong learning that integrates ministry and vocation to 250 graduate students and a number of individuals and churches seeking equipping and development. Its practical mindset and evangelical foundation comes from its namesake, William Carey – “the father of modern missions.” Carey is located on the picturesque University of British Columbia campus in Vancouver, BC, which sits on the edge of the Pacific and hosts stunning views of the coastal mountains.

A ministry of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada, Carey also works closely with its international mission board, Canadian Baptist Ministries, and networks collaboratively with churches, other training centres and UBC to create a nurturing faith community where Christians can prepare for “competent ministry.” Carey includes three ministries: Carey Theological College, a graduate school; Carey Institute, an equipping program for church congregations or individuals in ministry; and Carey Centre, a residential facility for university students and short- or long-term visitors.

Carey seeks a forward-thinking President to lead its executive team in making Carey a leader in changing theological education. The President loves Christ and His church, and has a passion for the gospel, strong relational skills and is an exceptional communicator. He or she will be the senior executive of Carey’s three entities, leading the continued development of Carey’s vision. The President will focus on building strong relationships with churches, other educational institutions, UBC and CBWC; creating a plan for ongoing financial stability, including a focus on student recruitment; and building a collaborative and trusting community among all of Carey’s stakeholders.
