Iron Sharpening Iron

A week ago Mini-semester ended here at Carey. It ran from January 27-31. It was an intense time of preparation for 10 ordination candidates, most of whom are pastors in the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada. There were 2 women and 8 men. They reflected together on the meaning of ordination in a church family that emphasizes the priesthood of all believers. They pondered pastoral boundaries, ethics, current theological trends and continuing education. They also presented their draft ordination statements to one another. It was a case of iron sharpening iron, a deepening time and an encouraging time. I found it a privilege to lead this time of formation of such fine leaders. We wish them the Lord’s presence as they move on to their ordination examinations!

I teach Supervised Ministry and Baptist Identity, and I shepherd the Graduate Internship Program for pastors new to the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada. I follow current affairs and, as an old soccer coach, I love a good game, particularly if it involves the Vancouver Whitecaps or the German national men’s team!
