Carey Institute maintains an academic relationship to The Canadian Baptists of Western Canada's graduate internship program.  This program is directed by Dr. Axel Schoeber.

The graduate internship program is a minimum one-year opportunity under the guidance of the CBWC's credentials committee. Currently, it is directed by Carey Institute. It is for those who are in their first years of ministry after graduation from a theological college or seminary, most of whom will be preparing for appearance before the denomination's examining council for ordination. In addition, the program includes mature persons graduated with their Certificate in Ministry, as well as those who come to The Canadian Baptists of Western Canada from other denominations outside the Baptist World Alliance.

The components of the graduate internship program include regular supervision of the intern by a pastoral mentor; an eight-day Mini-semester under the auspices of Carey Institute to provide opportunity for reflecting on ministry, and, in the case of most, on ordination; the completion of evaluation forms; in the case of some, completion of a course on Baptist Identity; and, in concert with the mentor and director, the development of a confessional statement for presentation to an Examining Council for Ordination.

This course may be required for some people who wish to be credentialed with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.

The aim of the course is to identify key features of Baptist ecclesiology; to acquaint students with Baptist history generally, and Canadian Baptist history in particular, with an emphasis on Baptist Heritage in western Canada; and to reflect on the principles that Baptists have maintained traditionally.

Upon satisfactory completion of the reading requirements and writing assignments, evaluation for all courses will be by letter grade. If taken through the New Pastors’ Orientation (CBWC), all course requirements and assignments must be completed no later than September 30 of the year the course was taken. One extension may be requested. If the student fails to complete the reading requirements and written assignments, evaluation will be marked by (F), fail.

The cost of this course is $750 with partial reimbursement through the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.  Please pay full amount to the Registrar at Carey Theological College.
(Carey Theological College, ATTN: Registrar's Office,5920 Iona Drive, Vancouver B.C., V6T 1J6)

In terms of the graduate internship program, a letter from the professor of record will be sent to the student's Area Minister, with a copy to the student or pastor-intern, informing the committee of the successful completion of the course.
